Blankets: Sanitize Wash and/or Dry for 40 minutes on high heat. Scrub the area with soap and water and then disinfect it with one of the cleaners mentioned above. To kill bed bugs with heat, the room must be even hotter to ensure sustained heat reaches the bugs no matter where they are hiding. Do not try to kill bed bugs by increasing your indoor temperature with a thermostat, propane space heater, or fireplace - this does not work and is dangerous. This chemical becomes deadly when it enters the insect’s body. Heat treatment: Bed bugs can't survive in temperatures above 120°F, so exposing infested items to high heat can be an effective way to kill them. A peppermint oil spray does the job in a non-toxic way and is hence safe to use around children.
